Back from Rotary President Elect Training

We had a great day of training in Toronto Saturday.  Incoming Presidents of Rotary Clubs from Rotary International Districts 7070, 7080, and 7090, attended a full day of training to prepare them for their year as a Rotary Club President.

My club is the Rotary Club of Amherst East.  Join us for lunch to learn more about Rotary.  We meet Thursdays at noon at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center, on the corner of Audubon Pkwy and North Forest Road in Amherst.

My Rotary project this week is to record the Rotary Public Service Announcements (PSA) that we will run on WBEN 930 AM radio next month to create awareness of Rotary and encourage membership in the clubs in Rotary District 7090.

My company, eXubrio Group is helping to produce these PSAs and providing additional pro bono public relations and Internet social media support to the program.

Sponsor My Ride for the Buffalo Tour de Cure Please

I will ride in the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area Tour de Cure on Saturday, June 5, 2010.  I invite you to ride with me (16 miles), or to sponsor my ride.  You can click here to learn more about the Buffalo Tour de Cure, or to sponsor the ride.

As of this morning, I am at 69% of my $2,000 fund raising goal.  Help me reach my goal and help the American Diabetes Association support people with Diabetes and find a cure for this terrible condition.

My middle daughter, Bonnie, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 16-years-old.  This is the incurable type of Diabetes, meaning that she is dependent on Insulin for the rest of her life.  There is no cure, and the medical community doesn’t know what causes this type of Diabetes.

When Bonnie was diagnosed, I found the American Diabetes Association, also known as the ADA.  They provided information, and they were there to support our family.  I was so grateful that I decided to ride that year in the annual Tour de Cure bicycle ride fundraiser.  I’ve been riding in it since and have raised thousands of dollars to help the ADA serve Diabetics and their families, and to search for a cure to Diabetes.

The ADA makes contributing easy.  You can follow this link to my Paul McAfee page on the Buffalo Tour de Cure website.

Please consider contributing to the American Diabetes Association.

Sushi & Sashimi for Lunch at Saki

Today, I started with 4 ounces of Isagenix Cleanse for Life and skipped breakfast, knowing I would be eating lunch a little after 11:00 am.  I sat at my desk until 9:00, drove to a meeting in downtown Buffalo, and then stopped for lunch at Saki (Transit, in Williamsville, NY).

Except for a quick run through Wegman's for dog and cat food, my only real exercise has been rationalizing having the Sushi & Sashimi lunch special (please don't tell Laurie) at Saki.

I realize that nobody wants to know the minute-by-minute details of my life.  I even get bored with it.  But I will document the details of the weight loss program so others can see how easy this can be - assuming I succeed.

The additional information in this blog is for color, and to show that I'm not doing anything special, other than trying to increase my daily walking, watching how much I eat without sacrificing, and adding the Isagenix foods to my diet.

I'm a pretty normal business guy, slightly over 60, who needs to watch his weight and health to make it to 100 and still remember who he is.  The last time I managed my weight effectively, it was through a combination of at least 10,000 steps per day, and the Atkins diet.  That kept me in the 165 pound range, with excellent cholesterol and low blood pressure, for about four years.  My Achilles tendon was that I live with other people who love carbs, and my will power is too weak to avoid the carbs when they're in the cupboard.
